Memory Concept In S7-400 PLC

Memory Concept In S7-400 PLC

There are basically three types of memory:

1.       Load Memory

2.       Work Memory

3.       System Memory

Load Memory:

It is divided into two parts:

1.    Internal Load Memory: Load Memory of the PLC.

2.   External Load Memory: Load Memory provided by the Memory Card.

a.       RAM Card:

It requires battery backup to store the data. If we plug out, then memory get reset. Battery backup is provided by Power supply with batteries inserted before CPU.

Generally where we requires programming changes in PLC run mode, we use this type of memory card.

b.      FLASH CARD:

It can be used for fail-safe backup of the user program and data without as         backup battery.

Program can only be downloaded in PLC in stop mode with function--->  download user program to memory card or Through PG with card inserted in the slot.

Work Memory:

It is basically the memory of CPU. Always check the work memory of PLC with respect your program as it cannot be extended. It is generally including all the user program relevant to execution. Local data stacks and data blocks relevant to program execution. Process images, communication resources and diagnostic buffer.

System Memory:

It is the memory mainly for timers, bit memory and counters. Reserved temporary memories for local data stacks, diagnostic buffer and communication resources. It is reorganized when settings change in CPU properties.
